Ron Hendricks - Biography

I look at the world as if everything has the potential to make a great photograph.  Much more does than we think.  Along the journey I have used a wide range of cameras, from an SLR mainly taking slides, to a 4x5 large format camera with which I did my own developing and printing.   Finally I made the switch to digital using both a DSLR and Point and Shoot camera, and of course my phone.  There has always been a desire at the back of my mind to do something other than mount, frame and hang my photographs.   My constant restlessness leads me to see and photograph my subjects in a different way.   This includes reflections and long exposures, in addition to simply trying different angles.  More than that, however, is a desire to present what I had taken in a different way.  Over the past several years this has lead, through much trial and error, dividing my enlargements into much smaller pieces, mounting them and then putting it all back together.  In addition to this, as I enter the last chapter of my life, I have become more self reflective.  Without really planning it out I have also begun turning the camera of myself with a series of "selfies" using the TinType app on my phone.  It has been fun and produced some interesting shots, but more than that it has aided me on my inner journey.  In addition to this I have also begun doing something completely different!  It involvers printing a photo on the back of photo paper, which in itself gives a different look.  The ink also stays wet for a very long time during which I can gently brush it with a tissue, which also can give a very different and unusual look.  I then take a picture of that with my phone, put it on the computer, and if desired do a bit more playing with it.   I'm excited to see where this leads me, the possibilities are endless.
